Ground meat (pork and/or beef mix) with yellow cheese and egg, baked onto your regular toast bread – a traditional Bulgarian breakfast sandwich called a ‘Princess‘. Ready in 30 minutes, baked in regular, toaster oven or air fryer. Similar to meatloaf toast/sandwich as well.

The Bulgarian Princess sandwich is a delicious and hearty breakfast, that takes me back right to my childhood. This lovely minced meat sandwich was one of those breakfasts you get at the bakery in between classes as school, alongside Bulgarian Banitsa. My grandma used to make a princess toast for breakfast, usually with home raised meats, however many eat it for lunch too. Sometimes, when bought from the bakery, the sandwich was long and thin, other times baked with regular toast bread. You can experiment with the bread base and it will still be delicious. If you are wondering what to do with some extra ground meat, definitely try this Bulgarian delicacy. Who knows, it might become a regular on the menu.
FUN FACTS: Princess sandwich is a super popular Bulgarian open-faced toast, often enjoyed for breakfast or as a snack. The most common version is topped with a mixture of minced meat, egg, and Bulgarian yellow cheese, then baked until golden and crispy. Variations may include just cheese or other toppings, making it versatile for different tastes.
