Greek Grilled Sea Bream (Tsipoura)

Greek Grilled Sea Bream fish fillets (called ‘tsipoura’ /Τσιπούρα/ in Greek) with delicious lime dressing. Simple Mediterranean seafood dinner recipe that goes well with salad or mashed potatoes on the side. Especially on a hot summer day.

On today’s menu we have one of my all time favorites easy meals – grilled sea bream with lime dressing. Sea bream fish we buy comes from fish farms in Greece, in fact sea bream is one of the popular fish varieties across the Mediterranean basin. If you haven’t tasted sea bream before, it has thick, mildly sweet and flaky flesh. What makes it exceptionally appealing to me is the limited number bones that require removal prior eating.

Greek Sea Bream, also called ‘tsipoura’/Τσιπούρα/ across Greece and neighboring countries, is actually a popular food choice. It comes in two mainstreamed varieties – silver sea bream and pink sea bream. Personally, I find silver seabream to be more delicious and easy to cook.

Ingredients and Substitutions

  1. Sea Bream fillets – the larger the fish, the tastier
  2. Lime juice – or lemon juice works too
  3. Olive oil – extra virgin is best
  4. Seasoning: oregano, salt & black pepper

How to cook?

1st: Prepare lime dressing by combining ingredients in a small bowl.

2nd: Coat each fish fillets with the marinate and let sit for 10 minutes in the fridge. Grill as usual. Serve immediately.

NOTE: If you sea bream is well cleaned, you can also enjoy eating the skin (so yum!). It’s delicious and very nutritious too. If you cut fillets yourself, do not throw away the spine cut, it can be grilled too.
