Melt-in-your-mouth beef (cow) tongue, pan seared in butter on the stove top. Easy, simple recipe for a delicious main course meal for the whole family.

Let’s make beef tongue, but let it be buttered and quick. It’s even quicker if you have your beef tongue precooked from the night before. It’s so easy and quick that I’m sure you’d be delighted (as I usually am on a busy weekday).
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Precooked beef tongue – recipe can be prepared with pork or sheep tongues too
- Butter – a must
- Salt – to taste, always
- Parsley for garnish
How to cook buttered beef tongue?
1st: Cut precooked beef tongue in thin, equal slices. Preheat non-stick pan and add butter.


2nd: Sear on each side in butter until golden on medium (to high) heat. Sprinkle with salt and minced parsley. Serve
What to serve with buttered beef tongue?
I prefer to serve it with a vegetable side or a simple salad. Here are a few suggestions from my kitchen:


Buttered Beef (Cow) Tongue
Equipment
- 1 Pressure cooker
- 1 frying pan
- 1 cutting board with knife
Ingredients
- 1 kg beef tongue, precooked
- 6 tbsp. butter
- sea salt to taste
- ground pepper and fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- First, precook beef 9cow) tongue in pressure cooker (Instant Pot) -( here's my recipe), slow cooker or on stove top.
- Then, while tongue is still warm peel the skin off. Cut in thin, even slices. Preheat non-stick pan and reduce heat to place butter in to melt (on medium to low heat).
- Next, add beef tongue slices and cover with lid. Cook on medium heat for approx. 3-5 minutes on each side or until golden.
- Serve immediately with a side meal of choice.
