Delicious yellow wax beans – perfectly seared in butter on the stove top. Quick, easy side meal for steak, fish or any other main meal. Vegetarian, gluten-free and keto-friendly too.

Today we are making a quick and easy side with yellow wax beans – usually from frozen beans. If you are a fan of beans do not miss my recipe for SAUTÉED FRENCH GREEN BEANS WITH SESAME SEEDS or my FRENCH GREEN BEANS POTATO SALAD (30 MIN).
Behind the Bites: Yellow wax beans are a variety of snap beans characterized by their bright yellow color and tender texture. They have a slightly sweet, mild flavor and are often used in salads, stir-fries, and as a side dish. Similar to green beans, they can be eaten raw or cooked.
Yellow wax beans are popular in several European countries, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe. They are commonly used in dishes in countries like Hungary, Romania, and Poland, often featured in soups, stews, and salads or as a simple side dish.
Ingredients and Substitutions
- Yellow wax beans – frozen or fresh. I usually find them frozen at the shops.
- Butter – essential for taste, but olive oil can be used too.
- Dried tomatoes – give the meal extra flavor, should be finely, finely chopped.
- Seasoning: salt, pepper, dried sage, oregano, parsley and garlic powder.
How to cook yellow wax beans?
1st: Boil wax beans in water for 5-10 minutes until they get softer, but not mushy.

2nd: Combine with all other ingredients and sear in a frying pan until golden on all (most) sides. Serve.
What to serve with wax beans?
Usually, I serve wax beans as a side, with fish or other types of meat. Here are a few suggestions from my kitchen:

- sea salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp. dried sage
- 1 tbsp. dried oregano
- 2 tbsp. parsley, fresh or dried
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- water for boiling wax beans
Instructions
- In a large pot bring water to a boil. Add (frozen) wax beans and cook for 5-10 minutes until beans become softer, but not mushy. Strain water and set aside.
